With Alexei Ramirez and Adam Eaton out until at least the All Star break is over, as well as Andre Rienzo getting demoted to Triple A, the Chicago White Sox called up promising infielder Carlos Sanchez.
Sanchez, 22, played 89 games for Charlotte with a .291 average, 5 home runs and 42 runs batted in. He also had 6 triples, and 12 steals on 15 attempts.
While the power is not huge, the speed is something Chicago will need at the top of the lineup with Eaton and Alexei getting a much needed break. Sanchez will bat second and play shortstop today at 12:05 PM in Cleveland.
It’s unsure yet whether his stay in Chicago will be a long one, or short lived, but with the rumors of Gordon Beckham possibly being on the move, it is possible Sanchez will be here for a while.
