The Growing Legend Of Joey Gallo

The 2014 season has not gone as expect for the Texas Rangers, its very uncharacteristic compared to years past. Injuries have decimated the Rangers this season, including prized off-season acquisition Prince Fielder, resulting in a 38-57 record heading into the All-Star break. On a positive note though the Rangers organization has to be excited about the future. There are plenty of bright spots: Jurickson Profar, Rougned Odor and most notably Joey Gallo.

Its no secret and it’s spreading around the league quickly, Joey Gallo has obnoxious raw power. Most scouts have graded Gallo anywhere from 75 to 80 grade when it comes to the power category. Often drawing comparison to Giancarlo Stanton when it comes to the power category. Gallo is currently the minor-league home run leader this season with 31 HR’s in 85 games at High-A and Double A levels. That’s coming off a 2013 campaign in which Gallo belted 40 HR’s, missed more than 30 games and still lead the minors in the home run category.

Gallo’s display during batting practice of the 2014 Futures game on Sunday backed up the notion has the best power tool of any of the current prospects. Gallo has a typical left handed swing, lots of hip rotation, low barrel to ball and a high finish with lots of rotation. Gallo’s power is exclusively to the pull side of center field. Which resulted in Gallo belting a BP homer nearly out of the park, which is nearly impossible at spacious Target Field. Gallo followed up a stellar BP performance with a heroic game performance, in which Gallo smashed a two-run moon shot which helped Team USA to a 3-2 victory over the world team. Gallo received the game MVP award as well to cap off the day.

It was a perfect day for a prospect like Gallo, he was able to showcase his talents for the whole world to see. It’s safe to say Gallo will be the topic of Monday morning office talk across the country. So Rangers fans and baseball fans alike should be excited for the arrival of the young slugger Joey Gallo. He will definitely be must see TV once he reaches the show!
