Asdrubal Cabrera to the Nationals

Asdrubal Cabrera is now a member of the Washington Nationals as he was traded for infielder Zach Walters and cash considerations, according to Paul Hoyes, Jordan Bastian and Buster Olney.

Asdrubal, who is now 28 years-old, is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the season and is hitting only .246 with nine homers. However, we all understand that Asdrubal is here for his defense. It’s been reported that Washington will move Anthony Rendon to 3rd to make room for Asdrubal but that has yet to be seen, because of the fact Ian Desmond is at short.

Zach Walters is a 24 year-old 2nd basemen who had a stellar season in the minors leading to his call up and in 32 games in the majors this season he his hitting only .205. he is a young promising prospect that the Indians can look to build on for the future.

The Indians have become clear sellers at the deadline selling Asdrubal and Justin Masterson these past few days and while they are only 5 games back in the wild card, it’s clear to see what the front office thinks of their chances for this year. The Nationals, on the other hand, are in first place in the NL East and are making their push for the playoffs. While Cabrera isn’t going to help much on the bat side his defense makes this infield in D.C very good. With both of these teams heading in different directions, the Indians do have young guys in the minors at short that they would love to place in the lineup and see what they have.
