The White Sox have signed 36 year old pitcher Brad Penny to a minor league deal. Penny, who has a lifetime ERA of 4.29, pitched with the Marlins for 8 games last year.
He has pitched in 349 total games and started 319 of them. The signing should be depth in case of injury, as the White Sox seem to already have their rotation set with Chris Sale, newly acquired Jeff Samardzija, Jose Quintana, Hector Noesi, John Danks, and possibly their top draft pick from 2014 Carlos Rodon. Depending on his spring, he might also compete with some of the younger pitchers the White Sox have in the minors for a long relief position.
Penny has also pitched for the Florida/Miami Marlins, the San Francisco Giants, the St Louis Cardinals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox.
