Astros In “Serious Discussions” To Acquire Free Agent Ryan Vogelsong

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Houston Astros are in serious discussions to acquire starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong, who is a free agent.

The Astros, as I wrote a few days ago, are looking for help in their rotation, and have been interested in Vogelsong for a while. Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that Vogelsong is a “realistic option” but nothing will likely be finalized tonight.

Vogelsong would be a improvement for an Astros pitching staff that total team ERA of 4.14, and a team WHIP (Walks plus hits per inning pitched, a measure of how many base runners a pitcher or team allows each inning) of 1.335 according to Baseball Reference.

Last season, Vogelsong was 8-13, with a ERA of 4.00 while pitching for the world champion San Francisco Giants.
