The pre-season Top 25 Rankings have been released for the start of the 2015 Division 1 College Baseball Season. The team starting in the top spot is the same team that ended last year with the dog pile in Omaha. The Vanderbilt Commodores have been voted as the number one ranked team representing the SEC conference just ahead of another SEC school the Florida Gators. Last year’s runner-up, the Virginia Cavaliers, are ranked third, ahead of perennial schools, UCLA and South Carolina, who round out the top five.
The 2014 College World Series, which is now held at the new TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, was one of the most well-played tournaments in recent years. Of the 16 games played, 12 of them were decided by two runs or less. That high level of solid play could be in store again, as seven of the teams that made it to Omaha are ranked within the top 25 and four of them slotted in the top 10.
The full Top 25 is:
1-5: Vanderbilt – Florida – Virginia – UCLA – South Carolina
6-10: North Carolina – Houston – TCU – LSU – Texas
11-15: Louisville – Oklahoma St. – Rice – Maryland – Miami (Fla)
16-20: Texas Tech – Texas A&M – Mississippi – Cal State Fullerton – Alabama
21-25: Florida St. – Oregon – Nebraska – Arizona St. – Tennessee
With these rankings released, the baseball season is that much closer to beginning here in 2015. It should be another great year on the road to Omaha.
