Downside To Each Team’s Biggest Free Agent Signing: American League

New York Yankees: Chase Headley
There is a lot that could go wrong with this Headley signing and most of it is because of the very complicated and overplayed situation with Alex Rodriguez but the Yankees also might have overpaid here and Headley just might not be all that good.  $52 million over four years was handed out to a player who is already on the wrong side of 30 and failed to top a .250 batting average or get 50 runs batted in last year.  He hit exactly .250 with 50 runs batted in the season before so he hasn’t been great the past two years.  Should he return to the player in 2012 who blasted 31 home runs with 115 runs batted in, than New York wins easily and it becomes the best sign this offseason.  But people shouldn’t count on that.
