4. Jose Altuve finishes in the top 5 of MVP voting.
Last year was a breakout year for Jose Altuve, hitting .341, winning the batting average crown, and finishing 13th in MVP voting. Will Altuve repeat, hitting over .340 again? Unlikely, but will he garner more attention as the Astros improve? Yeah. Another .320+ season is absolutely possible, and with more name recognition, it’s not absurd to think Altuve could break into the top five in the American League.
Obviously, the one thing that hurts Altuve is his lack of power, but with a solid OBP, and another fine year with the glove should force voters to overlook that. Expect new hitting coach, Dave Hudgens and new manager, Hinch to make sure Altuve’s needs are met.
