Tonight’s Yankees/Tigers game saw one of the best throws you will see a shortstop make. Not the strongest throw, not the farthest throw, just the throw that slightly defies physics and makes you move from your phone to your laptop so you can watch it on a bigger screen.
Andrelton Simmons is the best defensive shortstop in baseball, but I can’t imagine Andrelton doing anything on this play that would have been more impressive than what Iglesias did. Maybe for this year’s All-Star Game festivities, they can have a Shortstopping Contest, where these two guys take turns making spectacular plays. I’d watch three hours of that.
