Today features a full slate of games with all 30 teams in action. All of the games are are later for the evening with the earliest of the games being at 7:05. Weather could be an issue for the games between the Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins and the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks. For this reason plan according when selecting your players in case of a rainout.
Drew Smyly vs Boston Red Sox (FD: 7,800 DK: 7,800)
The Red Sox feature a potent lineup that has scored the seventh most runs in the league. However, Boston has the third lowest AVG against lefties thus far in 2015 tied with the Pittsburg Pirates and only better than the Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers. Smyly who throws left handed should be able to take advantage of this fact in order to dominate and out up huge numbers in today’s game.
Rick Porcello vs Tampa Bay Rays (FD: 7,800 DK: 6,800)
The Rays feature a below average offense and are in the bottom ten in runs scored thus far this season. Additionally, they are striking out an awful lot with the fourth highest K% in all of baseball. Porcello has not had the best start to his season but he is striking out almost one batter per inning pitched so chances are good that he will rack up the K’s in this one.
David Freese vs Seattle Mariners (FD: 2,900 DK: 3,300)
Freese in his career has mashed left handed pitching to the tune of a wRC+ of 142. James Paxton is starting for the Mariners and he has struggled to begin his 2015 campaign. I think Freese should have a big day against the left-hander and is a solid cheap option for today.
Ryan Raburn vs Kansas City Royals (FD: 2,500 DK: 3,000)
Raburn has been a lefty killer so far in 2015 posting an absurd wRC+ of 232 across 38 PAs. His career numbers are not as impressive against southpaws with a wRC+ of 118. He is extremely cheap and at that price he should be a steal against Jason Vargas and the Royals today.
Starlin Castro vs St. Louis Cardinals (FD: 3,100 DK: 3,800)
Compared to the other guys I discussed above Castro does not have the biggest of platoon splits. For his career Castro’s wRC+ against lefties is only 112 but that is better than the 94 he has against righties. He does not hit for a ton of power but does have a career AVG of over .300 against lefties and is facing Cardinals’ lefty Tyler Lyons. At a position often void of offense I like Castro today to produce.
Pedro Alvarez vs Cincinnati Reds (FD: 3,000 DK: 3,700)
Michael Lorenzen is making his second career start for the Reds and he was victimized by the Brewers for three homers in his first outing. Alvarez is the best power hitter the Pirates have an as a result I like his chances of going deep in today’s contest.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs Colorado Rockies
I like the Diamondbacks for a number of reasons but the biggest reason is that they are playing at Coors Field. Additionally, they are facing lefty Tyler Matzek and I think that means they will put up a ton of runs in today’s contest. Paul Goldschmidt and Mark Trumbo have been abusing left-handed pitching and although both of them are a bit expensive they will be well worth the price.
San Diego Padres vs San Francisco Giants
I do not believe in Ryan Vogelsong and think that the Padres will have a big day against the right-hander. There are a number of solid options in the Padres order including the three outfielders who may cost you a bit. However, you could go the cheaper route and play guys like Derek Norris, Yonder Alonso, and Yangervis Solarte.
