What Options Do The Cardinals Have At First Base?

Option 2: A platoon between Reynolds and Xavier Scruggs

Xavier Scruggs is currently the starting first baseman for the Cardinals Triple-A affiliate in Memphis. In 41 games the 27-year-old is slashing .212/.355/.474 with eight home runs. The batting average is not ideal, but the on base percentage is nice, and eight homers in 41 games is a feasible number. If the decision is made that Reynolds can’t handle everyday duties, John Mozeliak may decide to start a platoon with Scruggs and Reynolds. This move would re-strengthen the bench, as well as allow Reynolds to stay fresh, and may keep both sluggers’ batting averages up around .250.
