Pablo Sandoval benched for liking photos on Instagram during game

Pablo Sandoval has been benched for Thursday’s game against the Braves, because Jared Carrabis of Barstool Sports found that Sandoval used his phone during the game Wednesday night to like two Instagram photos.

Comcast Sportsnet New England notes that Sandoval admitted to using his phone while going to the restroom late in the game and apolgized to his teammates. He accepts his one game suspension and expects to be back in the lineup Friday.

Sandoval, 28, signed a contract worth over $90 million with the Red Sox this past offseason and has struggled so far in 2015. He is slashing .270/.323/.409 with six home runs, 103 wRC+, and -0.3 fWAR. His defense has been a huge problem so far; he’s made 9 errors already after making just 11 in 2014. According to FanGraphs, he has negative ten defensive runs saved with a -9.5 UZR.

With the Red Sox struggling the media will have a blast with this one. The Sox are 28-39, in last place in the American League East, and take on the Atlanta Braves Thursday night. The matchup will be Clay Buchholz (3-6, 4.22 ERA) and Shelby Miller (5-2, 2.02 ERA).
