Nori Aoki placed on 7-day concussion DL

The San Francisco Giants placed Nori Aoki on the 7-day concussion list after being hit in the head by a pitch on Sunday against the Cubs, reports Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News. He initially passed the concussion test, but left yesterday’s game early due to feeling light-headed.

Ryan Lollis, 28, was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento and will serve as the Giants fifth outfielder for the time being. He got his first taste in the big leagues earlier this year, but had five hitless plate appearances before being optioned back down. He is slashing .333/.387/.473 in 273 Triple-A plate appearances.

Aoki, 33, already spent more than a month on the disabled list with a fractured ankle and now will miss more time with a head injury. In 338 plate appearances he is slashing .302/.368/.387 with a 122 wRC+, and 1.9 fWAR.

Justin Maxwell will likely get the majority of the starts with Aoki outwith Juan Perez and Lollis used in bench roles.
