Doug Million (21)

September 23, 1997

Doug Million, the 1994 Gatorade High School Baseball Player of the Year Award winner, was the seventh overall pick by the Colorado Rockies in the draft that same year. The rail-thin lefty had lived his whole life coping with asthma. The Rockies organization, impressed with his high school record and his ability to overpower hitters, knew about his condition and signed him anyway.

Million pitched great in his first season in Rookie League and Low-A but struggled the following year in High-A. Following the 1996 season, while playing in an Arizona instructional league, he suffered a severe asthma attack that killed him.
