In a market where success at the major league level is constantly demanded, building a strong farm system can be a tough challenge (see: Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers). However, in the past half decade, the Boston Red Sox and the now-departed Ben Cherington have done well to build the farm system into one of the best in baseball. With a history of producing homegrown star players, including Jon Lester, Dustin Pedroia, and Kevin Youkilis, as well as former farmhands currently on the verge of major-league stardom, such as Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts.

With that said, let’s take a look at their top 20 prospects heading into the 2016 season.
