Did anyone really think that the Chicago Cubs and Theo Epstein were finished building up the roster this winter? On Thursday the Cubs once again made headlines with two separate moves to help better their team for a run at the World Series.

The first was trading Chris Coghlan to the Oakland A’s for young right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks. The second was the sudden re-signing of outfielder Dexter Fowler. It was a surprise to many when Fowler showed up at Cubs camp just a few days after a rumored deal with the Baltimore Orioles.

Fowler was one of the many spark plugs for the Cubs in the second half of last season, and is now returning on a one-year deal with an option for the 2017 season. The signing of Fowler makes the Las Vegas favorites even stronger going into the season. While the move is surprising, it is just another reminder to always trust in Theo Epstein.

Here are five takeaways from Dexter Fowler re-signing with the Chicago Cubs.
