The 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft is now less than two months away and players are beginning to organize themselves into tiers with their early-season performances. While there is still enough time for a player to move dramatically in either direction, part of our job as baseball writers is to use at least a fundamental level of baseball knowledge to project where players may land come draft night. As always, mock drafts are just a guideline for what the future could hold, and serve as a basis for fans to speculate upon and oftentimes criticize.
Chances are good that I, along with everyone else doing one of these, will have my dreams of a perfect mock draft spoiled within the first 10 picks, but it is a lot of fun to get an idea of how the players stack up side-by-side. So let’s get started and see where all the puzzle pieces fit together, beginning with the Philadelphia Phillies at number one.
