What a roller-coaster week it was for the Indians. First they dropped the first two games of a three-game set against the Texas Rangers at Progressive Field. Then came the gut punch when news broke that veteran outfielder Marlon Byrd tested positive for PEDs and was issued a 162-game suspension. Things looked pretty bleak for the Indians at that point. All of a sudden the team rallied back as they won the series finale against the Rangers then held their ground as they hosted AL Central foe the Kansas City Royals for a four-game series. The Royals came to Cleveland with a 2.5 game lead over the Indians. They left Progressive Field 1.5 games back of the Indians as the Royals were swept out of Cleveland.
Stud of the Week: Mike Napoli
Attention everyone: Napoli’s having a party in downtown Cleveland. Everyone needs to be there as he is raining down an assault of home runs at Progressive Field. He hit four home runs and seven RBIs this week as well as compiled a .273/.346/.727 batting line. He’s doing exactly what the Indians signed him to do in offseason and that was hit home runs. He already has 14 home runs through 51 games in 2016. The hope is he can maintain this rate as things begin to heat up down the stretch.
Dud of the Week: Carlos Santana
Things are starting to trend downwards for Santana. He was moved to the leadoff position due to his ability to get on base, but struggled this past week. He hit .208/.296/.333 for the week and while he did hit a home run, he mostly rolled over on pitches and hit them into the shift. He’s always been a pull hitter, but due to the increase in shifts, he’s not getting on base as frequently as he continues to hit into the right side of the infield, where they are playing him perfectly.
