Sleeper Candidates for the American League All-Star team

Dellin Betances – New York Yankees

Dellin Betances was supposed to be the next great Yankee starting pitcher. Well, that didn’t work out. So, they moved him to the bullpen. And, that worked out really, really well. Working as the setup man for closer David Robertson this year, Betances is second only to Robertson in K/9 among all AL relievers. He owns a .134 opponents average, a 0.72 WHIP, and a 1.19 xFIP. Betances is performing very similarly to how Mariano Rivera did in 1996 as an 8th inning guy before taking over as the closer in ’97.
