The Atlanta Braves have faded recently. After fighting for the NL East lead most of the season, the Braves are now just a game over .500 and six games out of first. They’ve gone just 3-7 in their last ten games and have a negative run differential. Meanwhile the Oakland Athletics haven’t looked much better as a team since their major trade for Jon Lester, but that doesn’t matter much considering they were the best team in baseball before the trade. They still hold that title with a 73-48 record and an elite +168 run differential. It’s certainly not good news for Atlanta that the A’s are the next team on the Braves schedule, even if the game is in Atlanta. Braves tickets are averaging $42 on the secondary market for the series, down 14 percent from the season average.
8/15 OAK Jason Hammel vs. ATL Alex Wood | Avg. Price: $44 | Get-in Price: $6
The Braves have a good opportunity at the start of the series, with the A’s worst starter taking the mound. Jason Hammel was part of a big trade the A’s made with the Cubs earlier in the year, but he has yet to perform well in Oakland. He has been the team’s worst pitcher by far, and even though he’s allowed just a run in his last two starts, those games were against the Rays and Twins, and he only made it through six innings once. He also had a 4.50 FIP in those games, showing he hasn’t improved as much as the ERA would suggest. The average price for Braves vs A’s tickets is $44 and the get-in price is $6.
8/16 OAK Sonny Gray vs. ATL Julio Teheran | Avg. Price: $49 | Get-in Price: $10
The most expensive game of the series also features Atlanta’s ace in Julio Teheran. The average price of the game is $49 and the get-in price is $10. Teheran s no longer the team leader in WAR, but he still leads the team in innings pitched while producing a 3.06 ERA and over a 4.00 K/BB ratio. He also has the lowest walk rate of anyone of the team, and is one of just two players on the staff with a WAR above 2.0.
8/17 OAK Jon Lester vs. ATL Mike Minor | Avg. Price: $33 | Get-in Price: $2
Things aren’t so great for the Braves in the last game when they send their worst starter to the mound in Mike Minor. Despite having one of the best strikeout rates on the team, Minor continues to disappoint, and currently has a 5.33 ERA while rating as a replacement level pitcher. He hasn’t had a sustained stretch of even good pitching so far this year, and has pitched plenty of stinkers. It doesn’t help that the A’s are sending Jon Lester to the mound, who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. It’s why even with a promotion allowing kids to run the bases after the game, the ticket prices are the lowest of the series. The average price is $33 and the get-in price is just $2.
