Toronto traded outfielder Anthony Gose to the Detroit Tigers for 23-year-old-Devon Travis, the teams announced Wednesday. Travis was rated the top prospect in the Tigers organization by Baseball America.
Gose struggled in parts of three seasons with the Blue Jays, hitting .234/.301/.332 in 202 career games with the team.
Travis, the 5-foot-9 infielder hit .298/.358/.460 with 10 homers and 16 stolen bases in 100 games in 2014.
MLB.com ranked Travis the fourth-best prospect in the organization, while ESPN’s Keith Law omitted him from his Tigers’ preseason top 10.
“Anthony is a true center fielder than can provide us with above average defense in center field with a good arm,” Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said. “He possesses above average speed and can steal bases at the major league level.”
