Orioles, Markakis have made ‘significant progress’ on 4-year deal

Nick Markakis and the Baltimore Orioles are inching closer towards finalizing a new long-term contract, sources told Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports.

Just three days ago, Markakis’ agent said he would present his client to other teams for the first time in his nine-year major league career, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. Those teams may not have a shot considering they could be on the verge of a new deal for Markakis.

The Orioles declined a $17.5-million team option on the 30-year-old outfielder. Markakis has spent his entire nine-year career in Baltimore.
