LaRoche has been the Marlins top interest after they extended Giancarlo Stanton to a 13-year, $325-million contract. The length of his deal allowed Miami to put player around him. He could team up with Stanton and Casey McGehee in the middle of the order to possibly smash the Marlins into the playoffs. At the age of 35, LaRoche still has time to possibly have a break out season.
Last season with the Nationals, LaRoche hit .259/.362/.455, but cranked 26 long balls and 92 RBI’s for the team. He only struck out 108 times, which lower than normal for the slugger.
Jackson also reports that the club has expressed interest in free agents starters: Jason Hammels and Justin Masterson. Miami is also showing trade interest in Diamondbacks’ left-hander Wade Miley.
