This offseason, the Atlanta Braves look to analyze their roster, and acknowledge what needs fixing.
The Braves had a rather poor season, placing second in the National League East, with a 79-83 record. This type of performance isn’t like the Braves, therefore, this offseason they look to revamp their current roster. They recently traded both OF Jason Heyward and RP Jordan Walden to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for P Shelby Miller and P Tyrell Jenkins. The Braves traded Heyward knowing that they weren’t going to get him back next offseason, same thing goes for OF Justin Upton. The right-handed hitter posted a .270 BA, 29 HR, and 102 RBI. Upton, 27, still hitting the ball well, can still be an option for the Braves if they decide to build around him. There were rumors of the Braves and Mariners being possible trade partners.
The Braves are at a fork in the road pertaining to their future. They are currently thinking about whether to compete next year, or wait until 2017 for the opening of their new ballpark.
