MLB Rumors: Cincinnati Reds engaged in trade talks involving Jay Bruce

The Cincinnati Reds started the offseason by apparently offering four of their starters, those being Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos, Mike Leake and Alfredo Simon who will be free agents next season. However, they are now “engaging in preliminary discussions” on a deal involving right fielder Jay Bruce, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com.

Bruce is owed $12 million in 2015 and $12.5 million in 2016 with a $13 million club option for the 2017 season. Sources told Ken Rosenthal that Bruce rejected two different contact extensions before the start of last season.

The 27-year-old had a down year and dealt with multiple injuries. He slashed .217/.281/.373, which is the worst batting numbers he has put up in his career. He also only managed to nail 18 home runs and only had 66 RBI’s. Coming off his worst season, the two-time All-Star might be a good choice for teams if they believe he will step it up in the future.
