The Los Angeles Dodgers intend to make a late push for free agent lefty Jon Lester, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI Boston 93.7 FM. The team also states that they are showing “serious” interest in the southpaw.
Lester has been linked to the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants this off-season. The Dodgers certainly have the money to get Lester, who is expected to receive a $140 million contract for at least six years. If the Dodgers were to get Lester he would join a star-studded rotation including 2014 NL MVP and Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw and perennial All-Star Zack Greinke.
It is expected that Lester will sign this week but don’t be surprised if this drags out into the Winter Meetings with the emergence of the Dodgers as a potential suitor for the free agent southpaw.
