There is still no official word from Ibanez pertaining to his possible retirement from major league baseball. Ibanez finished the 2014 season as a member of the Kansas City Royals.
The Rays search is now down to Kevin Cash and Don Wakamatsu. Cash spent eight years in the majors, mostly as a backup catcher. Cash is a native of Tampa, Florida. His lone coaching experience came as a bullpen coach for Terry Francona and the Cleveland Indians in 2013 and 2014.
Wakamatsu spent the 2009 and most of the 2010 season as manager of the Seattle Mariners before being fired in August of 2010.
