The Winter Meetings in San Diego got off to an exciting start today, with Brandon Moss being dealt to the Indians being the biggest trade/free agents signing. The White Sox remained rather quiet on the first day, but look for them to make some moves this week.

Roster move: White Sox claimed catcher Rob Brantly off waivers from the Marlins. Brantly, 25, figures to add competition for the backup of current backstop Tyler Flowers. Josh Phegley and 2013 Rule 5 pick Adrian Nieto also will be in the mix.
Rumors:
Jeff Samardzija sweepstakes: The White Sox seem to be at the top of the list for teams likely to acquire Samardzija, and it was reported just by Jeff Passan what the package may be.
Sources: If the White Sox do deal for Jeff Samardzija, return would be Marcus Semien and prospects. A’s would slot Semien in at shortstop.

White Sox reticent to give up high-level prospects because Samardzija under contract for only one year. Anderson, Montas may not be in play. — Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) December 8, 2014
Trio of Relievers receive interest. Ken Rosenthal reports that after Andrew Miller signed with the Yankees this past weekend, the White Sox are looking at plan B options
Per @GeorgeAKingIII, #WhiteSox pursuing Robertson. Sources say they also like Gregerson, who lives in Chicago. Just $64.8M committed in ’15.

It has also been reported that the White Sox would be interested in Francisco Rodriguez also, who would fit the bill for a closer in 2015 for them. Oliver Perez was the first reliever brought in this offseason to help shore up the bullpen that struggled mightily.
