Blanks has spent parts of six years in the major leagues, playing first base and the corner outfield spots. He spent the first five and a half years with the San Diego Padres. He spent the second part of last season with the Oakland Athletics after being traded from San Diego in May. Blanks was non-tendered and designated for assignment earlier in the month.
Blanks has a career .234 batting average with 30 home runs and 105 runs batted in.
Blanks’ name came up as a possibility for many teams, including St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets.
