4. Spencer Adams RHP – Another pitcher drafted out of high school, and the youngest member on this list, Adams, 18, was drafted in the second round in June’s Amateur Draft. He went to White County High School in Cleveland, Georgia, and pitched for the Arizona League White Sox for 41 2/3 innings. In 10 games (nine starts), Adams finished 3-3 with a 3.67 ERA and 59 strikeouts, which was good for a 12.7 K/9. He also only walked 4 batters all year, and showed very nice control in his first Minor League season.
Like the previous pitchers, Adams throws three pitches. He throws a fastball in the mid-90’s, a mid-80’s slider with nice break, and a change-up that is still developing and will progress as he matures. Still 18, he will have plenty of time and opportunity to work other pitches into his arsenal. While still too early to tell, Adams has the potential to be another solid mid-rotation starter along the line, with #1 starter upside. Expect him to see Great Falls next year, and possibly Kannapolis as well.
