Chicago White Sox: Top 10 Prospects

8. Courtney Hawkins OF – Yet another former high school pick from Corpus Christi, Hawkins was a first-round pick and made a quick impact at just 18. After a .284/.324/.480 slash line in 2012, he’s been stuck in Winston-Salem for two years. A rough ’13 kept him there all year, but he rebounded well in ’14. Hawkins mixes speed with power, and has enough discipline that despite the high strikeout numbers, he can still get on base while not hitting for a high average. He also has a very nice arm in the outfield, and will probably move to a corner outfield spot before heading to Chicago. He has a high ceiling, but his floor is pretty low as well if the strikeouts rack up and his power doesn’t transfer. Still just 21, he will likely start 2015 in AA Birmingham and eventually make his way to Charlotte, hopefully sooner than later.
