San Diego Padres: Top 10 Prospects

7. OF Michael Gettys– I liked Gettys a lot going into last year’s draft, and I think the Padres made a great selection with him. He’s still only a teenager, and did pretty well playing in the rookie leagues, hitting .310/.353/.437 with 16 extra base hits in his first 213 at-bats. If he develops into a good hitter, he could jump to the top of this list. If I were the Padres, I’d start him off in Fort Wayne next season to challenge him a bit. Gettys power is growing, and his speed is already there, making him another 20-20 threat in the future. Gettys is under the radar right now, and I’d keep my eye on him.  He’s a good defender and if he keeps hitting and slowly improves his game, you could have a real good player on your hands.

Grade: B Potential: He’s still young and a raw talent. The safe prediction for now is a solid starter.

Agree w/the top three, but would put them Renfroe-Wisler-Hedges. Hedges’ defense is stellar, but his bat is really lacking. I don’t see Taylor Lindsey being anything in the majors, I think that Jose Rondon was the biggest piece in the Huston Street deal (no slight to RJ Alvarez, who was recently traded to the A’s in a package for Derek Norris and Streich). A prospect that I was really looking forward to was Mallex Smith, who was traded to Atlanta, I’ll be interested to see if he lands in their top 10, not sure how strong their farm is.

Good read! Great review of the new top 10 with all the changes. I will be interested to see what other changes are in store and how AJ Preller drafts.
