San Diego Padres: Top 10 Prospects

9. SS Jose Rondon– The other player involved in the Huston Street deal probably has more potential than Lindsey, but he still has a ways to go. Rondon looks like a good hitting shortstop, and I’d say he has the highest ceiling of any middle infielder on this list. He just has to go out there and keep hitting this year, most likely in AA. I wouldn’t be surprised if next year, Rondon works his way up on this list. It wouldn’t hurt him to develop just a bit more power though, even if it’s just some gap power.

Grade: B- Potential: Could be a solid everyday shortstop who hits well.

Agree w/the top three, but would put them Renfroe-Wisler-Hedges. Hedges’ defense is stellar, but his bat is really lacking. I don’t see Taylor Lindsey being anything in the majors, I think that Jose Rondon was the biggest piece in the Huston Street deal (no slight to RJ Alvarez, who was recently traded to the A’s in a package for Derek Norris and Streich). A prospect that I was really looking forward to was Mallex Smith, who was traded to Atlanta, I’ll be interested to see if he lands in their top 10, not sure how strong their farm is.

Good read! Great review of the new top 10 with all the changes. I will be interested to see what other changes are in store and how AJ Preller drafts.
