3. Rob Kaminsky, 20
If I were to pick a Pitcher of the Year in the Cardinals minor league system, it would be Rob Kaminsky. Pitching in the Midwest League at just 19-years old, Kaminsky had a 1.88 ERA over 100 2/3 innings for the Peoria Chiefs. If Marco Gonzales’ out pitch is a nasty change-up, Kaminsky’s pitch is a nasty curveball, so nasty that many talent evaluators called it the best curve in all of the 2013 MLB draft. If there is something for him to work on, it would be to become more efficient in innings. While he never allowed more than 3 earned runs in any start, he only worked into the 6th inning in 10 of his 18 starts and never completed 7 innings. While much of that is the club limiting his innings, some of it is due to elevated pitch counts. I would like to see Kaminsky begin the 2015 season at High-A Palm Beach and finish the year with a couple of starts at Double-A Springfield. This puts his ETA in St. Louis late 2016 barring no injuries.
