The Wichita City Council and the owners of the Wichita Wingnuts have agreed on a new 10-year lease for Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, according to The Wichita Eagle. The agreement will require WB LLC to pay $25,000 each year to use Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
The lease also states the stadium must be available for use by the National Baseball Congress — an organization of 15 amateur and semi-professional baseball leagues operating in the United States and Canada — for the annual NBC Tournament each summer. The National Baseball Congress Foundation was formed last September to take over the operations of the tournament.
Other than NBC Tournament use, the lease will give WB LLC “exclusive use of those areas designated as administrative facilities, home baseball clubhouse, ticket windows, gift shop, etc., during the entire year throughout the term of this lease.”
The past due lease amounts of $77,000 must be paid as part of the agreement. The agreement will also include a five-year option for renewal.
The Wingnuts, who play in the American Association, will play their 2015 home opener at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on May 26 when they host the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
