New York Yankees: Top 10 Prospects

SS Jorge Mateo– Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus are both VERY high on Mateo, and he looks pretty good, I must agree. The main thing I want to see before I rank him higher is how he does above rookie ball, as he only has 15 games under his belt stateside, all at the GCL level.  The ball zips off his bat though and he’s very fast.  He has a chance to leap-frog many on this list with a solid 2015.  He’s 6’0 and hasn’t quite filled out yet, but he should be able to stick at shortstop and be around at least average.   Mateo’s bat will carry exactly how far he goes, because his speed is good and he has talent. If he can stay healthy, watch out, as he is most definitely the top shortstop prospect in the system.

Grade: B- Potential: All-Star Shortstop if he reaches the top end of his talent, solid shortstop if he doesn’t but doesn’t bust.
