The Chicago Cubs have claimed Drake Britton from the Boston Red Sox after he was placed on waivers following the signing of Alexi Ogando.

Britton, 25, is joining a roster already touting the services of former Red Sox players such as Jon Lester, David Ross and Felix Doubront. The southpaw has shown some decent effectiveness in his short time at the Major League level (with Boston) logging a 2.93 ERA with 6.8 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 in 27 2/3 innings. The rest of his seven years have been served in the Minors.

Chicago can use another lefty reliever to look at in spring training as their only other current options are Zac Rosscup, Joe Ortiz and Pedro Feliciano who signed a Minor League deal with the club.

Pitchers and catchers report to spring training on February 19th.
