- Ian Desmond (Washington Nationals)
I’m sure everyone guessed how the top of this list would play out, but that is for a good reason. Desmond is an underappreciated baserunner, 5th in UBR among qualified SS, and has elite power, 2nd in ISO among qualified SS.
Desmond had a combined .286 BA over the 2012 and 2013 seasons, but just a .255 BA in 2014. This was, large part, due to pitchers throwing his fastballs up and in, and more and more breaking balls to the slugger. Desmond has adjusted to pitchers before and he should be able to do it again.
Desmond led all shortstops in HR and RBI in 2014. With the numbers he and the rest of his teammates put up on offense, the Nat’s should win plenty of games with their cheat code pitching staff.
