Birmingham, AL – The South Eastern Conference handed out their first set of Weekly Baseball honors on Monday, announcing Florida’s Harrison Bader as Hitter, Missouri’s Reggie McClain as Pitcher, and Louisiana State’s Alex Lange as the Freshman of the Week for February 9-15.
Bader a junior outfielder from the Bronx, NY, lead the Gators to a season opening sweep of the University of Rhode Island, hitting safely in all three games, while going (7-12) with three home runs, 11 RBI, and five runs scored .
His strongest performance came on the rubber game of the series on Saturday, a 22-3 Florida victory, where finished went (3-4) with a pair of home runs, six RBI, and four runs scored.
The Gators will make a trip to Tampa for a mid-week matchup with The University of South Florida on February 18th, before returning home for a weekend series cross-state rival Miami beginning February 20th.
McClain a junior right-hander from Duluth, GA, is in his first season with the Tigers, following two years at Manatee Community College.
In his first Division I start, McClain dominated Iona, throwing eight scoreless innings of, allowing just three hits, while striking out a career high ten batters, without sacrifice a walk.
McClain only allowed one opponent to advance beyond second base, but responded by quickly pick the baserunner off at second base to neutralize the threat.
Missouri will look to remain undefeated when they travel to Corpus Christi, TX for tournament that will include matches against host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Sam Houston State and Purdue, beginning February 19 at 6:00 p.m.
Lange a right-hander from Lee’s Summit, MO, assisted second rank Tigers to a series sweep of the Kansas Jayhawks in the season’s opening weekend.
In his first collegiate start, Lange held a talented Kansas team scoreless across five innings of play, amassing seven strikeouts while allowing just one walk.
LSU will continue with the next leg of thirteen game home-stand with a midweek pairing against Southeastern Louisiana on February 18th, before hosting weekend series against Boston College beginning February 20th at 7:00 p.m.
