11. Chicago Cubs
When Joe Maddon bolted Tampa Bay for Chicago, the rumors started to swirl that big things were on the horizon. Those rumors have already begun to bear fruit, and that fruit was Jon Lester. The addition of Lester alone made the Cubs 12-1 favorites to win the World Series. Add in Kris Bryant, whom Cubs fans and management both have been waiting for, and Javier Baez, the other much-anticipated prospect, and the Cubs look frightful indeed. Anthony Rizzo has emerged as a star, and Starlin Castro became solid once again in 2014 after a poor 2013. Those two paired with Lester and trade acquisition catcher Miguel Montero, provide a good veteran core for the young guys. A good Spring Training from Bryant and Baez are key, and a good Spring from Kyle Hendricks would help him keep the momentum he gained in 2014. The addition of Dexter Fowler was a widely underrated move, as the Cubs now have a lead-off man who can both get on base and steal bases. If things break the Cubs way, expect them to make some noise this year, even given the tough division they are in.
