Baseball is finally back in the headlines. Teams, pitchers and catchers started to report to spring training last week. An official team workout of all players is slated for next week, but that does not mean there is not news in the headlines regarding the Chicago Cubs.
*New Cubs manager Joe Maddon announced that Hector Rondon will be the Cubs closer. The former Rule V player is on the rise on a great up-and-coming team. Rondon was inserted as the Cubs closer last season. Maddon said do not fix what is not broken. Rondon is just one pitcher that headlines a bullpen of great young talent.
*Theo Epstein stated the Cubs are contemplating going with three catchers to open the season. But him and Maddon did say it is not logical. But all cards are on the table. Welington Castillo said he does not want to be traded, and wants to stay a Cubs to keep getting better each and every day. However, having three catchers on the roster does not make sense, so Castillo’s days as a Cubs may be numbered.
*Joe Maddon mentioned yesterday that he very well could bat the pitcher 8th. Not all the games, but depending on matchup and line-up that day.
*This topic is a no doubter, but Jon Lester will likely take the mound on opening night against the St. Louis Cardinals on April 5th.
More news to come in the near future for sure and it is great to talk about baseball games again!
