Left Field: Hanley Ramirez
2014 Stats (with Dodgers): 128 games, 64 runs, 35 doubles, 13 home runs, 71 RBI, 14 steals, .283/.369/.448/.817
There is no doubt that, barring an injury, Hanley Ramirez will be the left fielder on Opening Day, and in all likelihood will bat behind David Ortiz in the cleanup spot. Ramirez was brought in to add some thunder to the lineup behind the aging Ortiz. With Dustin Pedroia‘s declining power numbers and Mike Napoli returning from surgery and entering a walk year, this signing makes sense in that regard.
But Ramirez was more of a contact hitter in 2014 and the club has to be hoping he will regain his 2013 form where he hit 20 home runs in just over half a season. The 31-year-old arrived at Spring Training looking well-built to take on the challenge and the Green Monster in left field should help his cause. Fortunately the 5-6 combo of Pablo Sandoval and Napoli should reduce his workload behind Ortiz.
His defense is something to watch, as he has been a questionable defender to this point in his career and it remains to be seen how he will take to playing the outfield.
