Boston Red Sox Season Preview: Infield

First Base: Mike Napoli

Mike+Napoli+Houston+Astros+v+Boston+Red+Sox+DUkBu6j3XG9l2014 Stats: 119 games, 49 runs, 20 doubles, 17 home runs, 55 RBI, 3 steals, .248/.370/.419/.789

Starting on the right side of the infield, the Red Sox projected first baseman is Mike Napoli. Napoli had a dip in numbers from his first season as a Red Sox last year but still was somewhat productive. Napoli expressed the interest to retire as a Red Sox as he will be entering the final year of his three-year-deal this season. The validity of that, however, will remain to be seen.

Napoli is projected to be slotted in the fifth spot in the lineup protecting Hanley Ramirez and batting before Pablo Sandoval. When healthy, Napoli is good for about 20 home runs and 70 RBI, good numbers for a first baseman on the wrong side of 30. The biggest question will be Napoli’s health but if he is playing for a contract, look for number 12 to have a productive 2015 campaign.
