4. The Red Sox add an ace at the trade deadline
If all goes according to plan and the Red Sox are in a contention spot come July 31, then they will go out and grab an ace for their playoff push. Whether that ace will be often talked about Cole Hamels remains to be seen. If the Philadelphia Phillies reduce their asking price of Mookie Betts or Blake Swihart, there will be a better chance that Hamels ends up in a Red Sox uniform.
Other options could include Cincinnati Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto or Washington Nationals ace Jordan Zimmermann. Both are free agents after the season, so both could be available if the teams want value for them before they have the opportunity to walk in free agency.
