5. The Red Sox win the American League East
With the East wide open this season, it has the makings of another worst to first finish for the Red Sox. Again, this all relies on how the pitching staff does, and how well the bullpen can hold up over the course of the season. On paper, the Toronto Blue Jays look to have the strongest team in the East, but that has been the case over the past few seasons and has never panned out. The New York Yankees have potentially more question marks in their rotation than the Red Sox do, and can never seem to stay healthy.
The winners of the East last season, the Baltimore Orioles, made no new moves to add to their core this offseason, while losing the powerful Nelson Cruz. Finally, after a few years of contention, the Tampa Bay Rays seem to be in another rebuild after trading away David Price and Wil Myers, and parting ways with manager Joe Maddon.
The East is there for the taking for the Red Sox. A lot can happen over the course of the season but if the Red Sox play as well as their expectations are, they could be cruising into October with World Series aspirations once again.
