Another Opening Day start for Felix Hernandez, another win for the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners’ ace struck out 10 batters en route to a 4-1 victory, upgrading his Opening Day record to a perfect 6-0.
But the Mariners couldn’t build off the victory, as C.J. Wilson took the mound for the Angels the following night and twirled an eight-inning, two-hit performance that gave the Angels a 2-0 win. Wilson retired the last 17 hitters he faced and only allowed three total base runners while he was on the mound.
Seattle starter James Paxton had a quality outing, but was simply outdueled by Wilson. Paxton lasted six innings, giving up four hits and striking out five. Paxton had one mistake in the fourth inning, a ball that David Freese deposited over the fence for a two-run home run.
