Tuesday features games including all 30 teams and no games in the afternoon. All 15 games feature start times at 7:05 EST or later. It does not appear that weather will be a factor in any of the games scheduled for tonight so no worries for delays.
Dan Haren vs Phillies (FD: 7,600 DK: 7,000)
Haren has been pretty good thus far in 2015 with a 2.08 ERA over 13 innings pitched. He has not struck out a ton of guys, which hurts his fantasy numbers, but today he faces the Phillies. There is no way to spin it other than the Phillies are the worst team in baseball. Their offense has scored the second-lowest amount of runs in the MLB and for that reason any time there is a reasonably priced average to above average starter facing them I will suggest you play him.
Taijuan Walker vs Astros (FD: 6,900 DK: 6,700)
Walker sent his hype train into full gear with a lights-out Spring Training but has struggled mightily out the gate thus far in 2015. Walker has only pitched seven total innings in his two starts with an ERA over 17. Obviously not very good numbers, but the good news is that he is facing the Astros tonight. The Astros offense been good for opposing fantasy pitchers, scoring the sixth lowest number of runs and striking out more than any other team in baseball. If Walker is going to make his case to remain in the rotation, today is the day to do it.
Jordy Mercer vs Cubs (FD: 2,200 DK: 3,900)
Mercer and the Pirates face Travis Wood and the Cubs tonight. For his career Mercer has mashed left-handed pitching with a career wRC+ of 156 agaisnt southpaws. His career ISO is also almost 70 points higher against lefties, making him an attractive play for those eyeing up matchups and looking to save money at SS.
Desmond Jennings vs Red Sox (FD: 3,000 DK: 3,900)
While his splits are not as impressive as Mercer’s, Jennings has been a much better hitter against lefties in his career. He has a wRC+ of 131 for his career and has seen an ISO jump of over 30 points. Wade Miley is a decent MLB starter but I like the split numbers for Jennings better than Miley.
Trevor Plouffe vs Royals (FD: 2,600 DK: 4,000)
Plouffe has had a decent enough career thus far to be able to lock down the third base job for the Twins at least until Miguel Sano is ready to perform at the big league level. For fantasy purposes, Plouffe has been okay have a few seasons where he showed decent power. However, what we can learn from his career thus far is that he can hit left-handed pitching pretty well. He has a career wRC+ of 125 against them with a nearly 40 point jump in ISO bringing him to right around .200. For these reasons I like him against Jason Vargas today who obviously throws left handed.
Texas and Arizona
Like the Padres and Rockies in yesterday’s article I like both of these offesnes playing against eachother in a hitters park. Starters Nick Martinez and Chase Anderson are both nothing special and there should be a lot of runs scored in this one. The high priced guys are solid options but guys like Mitch Moreland, Ender Inciarte, David Peralta, and others could be very good plays.
Yankees vs Tigers
The Yankees face right hander Kyle Lobstein who has filled in nicely for Justin Verlander thus far. The Yankees offense is underrated and has been one of the better offenses thus far in 2015 and after nearly getting blanked by Alfredo Simon yesterday I expect them to bounce-back today. Most of the Yankees are priced in the mid-range and guys like Chase Headly and Brian McCann are in the lower end of the middle and I like them as a stack play today.
