There are twelve games on the schedule for today in MLB, with the start times of these games spread out throughout the day. Seven of the games have first pitch prior to 4:00 EST with the other five beginning after that time. It appears that there will be no issues due to the weather, so no need to be concerned with that. Now lets take a look at some cheap players for today’s contests.
Homer Bailey vs Brewers (FD: 8,200 DK: 8,200)
Bailey has been an above average MLB pitcher while showing flashes of dominance throughout his career. In his second start back from injury, he faces the Brewers who currently have the worst offense in baseball. They have been struggling to score runs all season but without Jonathan Lucroy and Carlos Gomez this offense gets downgraded even more. Until the Brewers begin to figure it out offensively, continue to pick on them in these daily contests.
David Phelps vs Phillies (FD: 5,100 DK: 4,400)
Phelps will be making his second start of the season in place of the injured Henderson Alvarez, and he performed well in his first time out despite being a strict pitch count. Rumors are saying he may be on a similar pitch count this time out which, could hamper his innings totals, but facing a poor Phillies offense he should have no trouble limiting them in the run column. Phelps has had starting experience in the past with the Yankees, and while he may not be the most exciting option he is solid and at his cheap price could be a great value play.
Yonder Alonso vs Rockies (FD: 3,200 DK: 4,300)
Any time a player finds himself playing at Coors Field it makes him an attractive fantasy option. This is evidenced by Alonso’s numbers in the current series, where he scored positive points in all three games of the series. Jordan Lyles is having a pretty solid start to his season but I like the chances of a big offensive game in this one.
Eric Campbell vs Braves (FD: 2,900 2,600)
Campbell has been doing great filling in for the injured David Wright at third. Since being called up he has been red hot and in the seven games he has played he has scored 2.5 or more points five times. He gets a tough matchup with the Braves’ Julio Tehran but he has been on fire with the bat and at his low price he is a great addition to the lineup.
Marcell Ozuna vs Phillies (FD: 3,100 DK: 4,500)
Ozuna has not gotten off to the start that many envisioned as he was supposed to the third member of the best outfield in all of baseball. He has, however, been picking it up the last few times out, picking up hits in four straight games with multiple hits in three of those games. Phillies starter Dustin McGowan gives Ozuna a good chance to keep this semi-hot streak rolling.
Dodgers vs Giants
The Giants are starting right-hander Ryan Vogelsong, and while Vogelsong has thrown some extremely important innings for some Giants’ World Series teams, the truth remains that he is just an average starter. This is one of the best match-ups for a talented offense against an average pitcher today, so try to find ways to add Dodgers into your lineup. I like guys like Howie Kendrick and possibly Jimmy Rollins as well as whatever combination of outfielders the Dodgers go with today.
Marlins vs Phillies
The Marlins face Dustin McGowan in today’s contest and this favors the Marlins heavily. McGowan is not very good and a talented Marlins offense should be able to take full advantage of this. While Giancarlo Stanton and Dee Gordon have relatively high prices, the rest of the lineup like Michael Morse, Christian Yelich, and Martin Prado are all are the cheaper side of things. If J.T. Realmuto ends up doing the catching, add him to your lineup as he has been impressive in his the chances he has gotten thus far.
