The Seattle Mariners have placed 2013 All-Star Hisashi Iwakuma on the 15-day disabled list with a right lat strain. The Mariners are recalling left-handed pitcher Lucas Luetge from Triple-A Tacoma to replace Iwakuma on the roster.
Iwakuma, who turned 34 last week, has started in three games this year so far and is 0-1 with a 6.61 ERA. The Tokyo native was set to pitch Sunday and manager Lloyd McClendon has yet to name a replacement.
Iwakuma was a Cy Young finalist in 2013 after throwing a 2.66 ERA and going 14-6. In his last start, Iwakuma only threw 71 pitches.
Hopefully Iwakuma can return from what general manager Jack Zduriencik hopes to be just shoulder fatigue. There will be an MRI and the team will find out more then.
