The Oakland Athletics announced that starter Kendall Graveman was optioned to Triple-A Nashville and recalled reliever Ryan Cook.

Graveman struggled in his first four starts posting an 8.27 ERA, 6.76 FIP in 16 1/3 innings pitched with 9 walks and 7 strikeouts. Jesse Chavez, who started 21 games last year for Oakland will take over the fifth starter role. He posted a 3.45 ERA, 3.89 FIP last year with a 1.3 fWAR.

Cook, 27, has a career 2.77 ERA, 3.01 FIP in 198 1/3 innings pitched with a 3.3 fWAR and a 9:3 strikeout to walk ratio.

The Oakland A’s are 8-11, good for third place in the American League West. They have a 2-0 lead on Houston this afternoon, but lost the first two games of the series. Houston is 10-7 and in first place.
